Truk Lagoon, also known as Chuuk is the graveyard to nearly 70 wrecks. On the morning of February 17, 1944 a United States Navy air attack code named "Operation Hailstone" caught a fleet of Japanese Merchant vessels and warships by surprise in Truk Lagoon. 400 tons of bombs and torpedoes were dropped. The history is amazing on this island. To be able to dive down and touch one of these magnificent wrecks and feel the history will leave you with a feeling of incredible amazement.
A lot of people think these wrecks are too deep to dive, I have dove some of these wrecks in 70 ft of water. They are covered with beautiful corals. They are some of the most colorful wrecks I have seen. Imagine you start to descend, you’re looking around and then there it is, a gigantic ship, you feel so small compared to the size. But then you notice the beautiful corals, the ship is covered with abundance of sea life. You can’t wait to get down there and explore. It is so exciting when they come home raving about how beautiful these wrecks are. There are also some gorgeous night dives. The Fujikawa is one of my favorite wrecks to dive and is a beautiful night dive.
